Insider tips

Know before you go.

01

Terminal Navigation

  • LAX's nine terminals are arranged in a horseshoe shape around the central theme building. Walking between terminals landside can take 15-30 minutes, so always use the post-security connectors when available.
  • The TBIT-to-Terminal 4 connector allows oneworld passengers to move between international and American Airlines terminals without rechecking security — a major time saver.
  • Terminals 2 and 3 are connected post-security, making it easy to lounge-hop between Delta facilities.
  • The LAX Automated People Mover (APM), currently under construction, will eventually connect all terminals to a central transit hub, Metro rail, and the consolidated rental car facility. Check completion status before your trip.
02

TBIT International Hub

  • TBIT houses the densest concentration of premium lounges at LAX — arrive early to take advantage of the Qantas First Lounge's full restaurant and spa before a long-haul flight.
  • Star Alliance Gold members can access both the Star Alliance Lounge and the Star Alliance First Class Lounge in TBIT, depending on their ticket class.
  • Korean Air operates separate First and Business class lounges in TBIT — both are excellent but less crowded than the oneworld options.
  • The Emirates Lounge in TBIT is exclusive to Emirates passengers but is one of the most spacious and well-appointed lounges at the airport.
03

Beating the Crowds

  • Peak lounge crowding at LAX hits between 5-8 PM when the bulk of trans-Pacific and European flights depart from TBIT. Arrive by 4 PM for the best experience.
  • The Centurion Lounge at LAX can have a waitlist during peak hours — check the Amex app for real-time capacity before heading there.
  • Early morning domestic departures (6-8 AM) mean less crowded Sky Clubs and Admirals Clubs, with breakfast service freshly stocked.
  • Weekday mornings tend to be quieter across all LAX lounges compared to Thursday-Sunday peak travel periods.
04

LAX Renovations & Construction

  • LAX is in the midst of a multi-billion dollar modernization program. The Automated People Mover train, new consolidated rental car facility, and terminal improvements are all part of the LAX Landside Access Modernization Program.
  • Allow extra time for ground transportation as construction may affect traffic flow around the terminal horseshoe, particularly the central terminal area.
  • Several terminals have received upgraded dining and retail options as part of ongoing renovations — check the LAX website for the latest openings.
  • New lounge openings are expected as terminal construction phases complete — airlines are investing heavily in premium spaces to match the modernized infrastructure.
